What is Pathology?
Pathology plays a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. It involves the study of diseases, their causes, and their effects on the body. Pathology includes many aspects of patient care and provides diagnostic information to both patients and clinicians. Through the examination of organs, tissues, and bodily fluids, pathologists are able to study and diagnose diseases.
Timing for Patient Results
Pathology is a field that is constantly growing and contributes to advancing medical knowledge and developing new treatments. In 2022 our pathology division created a digital workflow strategy through the use of digital pathology.
Digital pathology is the process of digitizing glass slides and these digitized slides allow Spectrum pathology to decrease the time to diagnosis. Spectrum has pathologists working out of multiple sites of service.
Currently, when working with a physical glass side, it has to be transported to the correct location to be seen by a specialist, essentially restricting access to part of the patient’s medical record until the slide is delivered. When a slide is digitized pathologists can read it regardless of where they are physically located. Utilizing these new tools will transform the practice of pathology, improve access to subspecialty care, and give patients faster diagnoses.
