The High Value Practice Academic Alliance hosts an annual conference in partnership with the American Hospital Association where medical providers are invited to share knowledge and best practices on providing high value healthcare. This year’s conference was held in November in Baltimore, Maryland. Spectrum Healthcare Partners and Maine Medical Center were represented with a poster created by radiology resident Daniel Greentree and Quality Operations Supervisor Ashley Quinn with assistance from Dr. Christina Cinelli and Miriam Dowling-Schmitt. The poster, titled “OneConnect: Effectively and efficiently communicating critical findings in a large, multi-site radiology practice” describes the creation of the OneConnect system, the brainchild of Rebecca Murray, Dr. Steven Winn, and Phil Brown. OneConnect was developed to assist SHCP radiologists maximize their time reading studies. Customer service demands on radiology are increasing and an inability to meet these demands is frustrating for referring physicians and other stakeholders. One area that is time consuming but is of utmost importance is the communication of critical findings, with a set of standards updated regularly by the American College of Radiology. Communication software can be purchased to assist radiologists but has limitations in functionality. Our multi-specialty radiology practice covers multiple hospitals and outpatient sites and has utilized the deployment of well-trained non-medical staff in support of radiologist communication. OneConnect has been operationalized by Jen West and the radiology support staff, and has been a great assistance to SHCP radiologists.
